Carolina Preserve Earth Day 2016
on Jun 11 in Giving BackOn Saturday June 14th, after a few scheduling changes due to inclement weather, Yard-Nique hosted an Earth Day celebration for the residents of Carolina Preserve in Bradford Hall.
With help from the property management company, Landarc, we were able to provide a cookout with hamburgers and hotdogs for the people that attended the event. The event included presentations on Ornamentals and Turf Pests, provided by our very own Tony Gregory. Tony discussed common pests that we experience in the industry, how to recognize them in the landscape, and management practices that the homeowners can use.
Yard-Nique also conducted a Container Gardening Seminar in which our landscape designer, Bobby Jones, talked about planter design ideas, how to create a container garden, and answered questions from the homeowners. During the discussions a planter was put together that was raffled off to one of the attendees. The planter was delivered to her home and placed in a location of her liking. All the food and plant material for the event was provided by Yard-Nique.

Yard-Nique Distresses Terra Cotta Pots with Residents in Carolina Arbors
on Mar 02 in Giving BackOn February 24th it was one of the coldest days of the year but the Yard-Nique team and some Carolina Arbors residents were toasty warm inside with a “hands on” workshop for distressing terra cotta pots.
Aged and distressed terra cotta pots have a romantic appeal but sometimes it is hard to wait for the weather and mineral deposits over time on these pots to do their own thing making them look aged so that’s where we come in to speed up the natural process.
Residents were introduced to a number of ways to change the look of the supplied terra cotta pot which involved faux painting, sanding and a method applying candle wax prior to painting so the paint would chip off. Some of the residents added more color than others, while some really went for the look of a pot that had ages in a garden shed keeping the colors muted.
The end result was that no two pots looked the same and everyone left with a great start on spring with a planter.
Yard-Nique supplied all of the materials for the craft for a small fee mainly to cover the cost of the clay pot and there was plenty of help on hand for the residents if needed. It was a great morning doing something creative to start off a winter day.

As in the past, the Yard-Nique team provided instruction and was there to assist the residents as needed with the project. Built to Honor – 9-11-2014
on Sep 14 in Giving BackYard-Nique is honored to be able to participate in Built to Honor; an amazing endeavor in which local home builders and contractors build homes for severely wounded combat veteran and their families. The homes are custom built to accommodate the specific needs of the disabled veteran, thus allowing them to lead as normal a life as possible following such a life changing event.
This year, Yard-Nique donated landscaping services to help build a new home for US Marine Corps Corporal Nathan Jakubisin who was injured in combat and now has an artificial leg.
In a special ceremony, held on September 11th, 2014, Built to Honor presented Corporal Jakubisin and his family with the keys to a custom built home. In attendance, along with the volunteers and corporate donors, was the Mayor of Fuquay-Varina, John Byrne, and Pat McCrory, Governor of North Carolina.
Yard-Nique would like to thank everyone involved in building the home for Corporal Nathan and his family. In addition Yard-Nique has donated our maintenance services to his new home as a tribute to say thank you for all he has done so we can live our lives in peace.
These are the kinds of things that make what we do every day worth it!
