Spring Terrarium Class at Carolina Preserve
on Apr 14 in Giving Back, YN NewsYard-Nique kicks off the first day of spring with a terrarium class in Carolina Preserve!
On March 20th, Carolina Preserve residents in Cary, NC kicked off the first day of spring by joining Yard-Nique in making terrariums. A terrarium is a small enclosure or closed container in which selected living plants are kept and observed. Terrariums create an environment easy to control allowing one to simulate everything from a desert to a rain forest!
Residents were asked to bring a small glass bowl, with or without a lid, and Yard-NIque provided all the other items needed such as plants, moss, soil, gravel, decorative stone and instruction.
The result from this creative group was many miniature masterpieces made by both the men and women in this community. No two were alike and everyone left with a little bit of nature that can be brought indoors!

Fairfield Park Wins Outstanding Landscape Award
on Feb 13 in YN NewsFairfield Park in Wilmington, NC is a maintenance free community consisting of nearly 200 homes, 11 acres of grass (centipede and Bermuda), walking paths, common spaces with seating areas and gazebo.
Yard-nique was hired to take over the weekly maintenance at Fairfield Park in May of 2013. At that time the HOA was very concerned with the health and condition of the grass, the health of the plants/trees, and the overall appearance of the community.
We immediately took soil samples from various locations throughout the community, placed the entire property on a proper fertilization and weed control schedule, and adjusted the height and frequency of mowing, and set the irrigation for optimal coverage.
Within just 2 months the residents of Fairfield Park began to see significant improvements in the quality of the turf. Additionally, we began an aggressive approach to pruning and fertilizing trees/plants, removed dead/dying plants, and addressed some plant disease issues.
As a result of all these efforts, Fairfield Park was awarded the prestigious “Outstanding Landscape” Award in Dec. 2013 by the Cape Fear Garden Club (which is the same organization that hosts the annual Azalea Festival in Wilmington).
The Garden Club representatives stated they chose Fairfield Park for this award based not just on the beautiful appearance of the entrance, but because of the overall appearance and upkeep of the entire neighborhood. This award is given only twice per year and is completely unsolicited.
Congrats to the entire Wilmington Yard-nique maintenance staff for showcasing our ability, passion and attention to detail.
